When violence is visited upon any community, its carnage can be unbearable. Its impact, simply stifling. Its logic, incomprehensible to you or I. Last week’s unfortunate tragedy is all of those things. Unbearable. Stifling. Incomprehensible.
Queen to Queen is an organization of Queens from historically black colleges and universities around the nation. But, after our reigns, we’ve become wives, mothers, and women of leadership to so many. Before them, we were daughters, sisters, and small children in grade school classes that may have been similar to the one in Newtown, CT before that fateful day. With our personal connection to young children, be they family members or neighbors, it is impossible to not feel the loss so many families are experiencing at this time.
Collectively, we express our sincerest condolences and deepest sympathies to the families of the 20 children and six adults lost to senseless violence in Newtown, CT. May solace find its way to you, faith in a higher being and purpose sustain you, and the prayers of a nation bring you through.
